Percussive therapy is a style of hands-on treatment that stimulates the mechanical sensors in the body. At My PT, we utilize the power of science to provide therapy on a whole other level. Introducing, the Theragun G3 PRO.
This percussion tool is a personal favorite of Dr. Tom. Theragun G3 PRO is a hand-held massage instrument with a pulsating rubber ball that is gentle, yet firm. This machine can deliver 60 pounds per square inch of force at 14 mm depth of penetration. Dr. Tom uses this on dysfunctional muscles.
What are the benefits for percussion therapy?
- Reduce pain
- Improve blood flow
- Reduce stiff and tight muscles
- Wake up dormant muscles
- Improve range of motion
How does it work?
The rubber ball end moves back and forth like a piston moving at high speed with two settings. On the low setting there is a frequency of 29 pulses per second where as the high setting is more like 40 pulses per second. Muscles will resonate with these vibrations to help to bring the muscle into this rhythm. This encourages the muscles to reset to a normal, comfortable resting position.
How long are treatments?
My PT uses the Theragun G3PRO. An hour session might have between 5 and 25 minutes of percussion therapy. It all depends on the purpose. For instance, tight muscles and stiff joints could be treated with the Theragun G3 PRO before stretching. On the other hand, it will be used to wake up muscles before strengthening and posture exercises.
